Corrine “Sweet Pea” Thompson bought Charlie from the breeders Ed and Sanna Carey as a seven week old pup. Although basically owner trained , Sanna helped with National training and became a co-owner prior to the 1985 National. Charlie was used for hunting and finished both titles before two and one half years old. Charlie was on the Derby list with 27 points. Charlie had 167.5 Open points and 18 Amateur points. National Opens qualified for were 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1988. He was a finalist each year but not in 1988. He only qualified for one National Amateur in 1982 which he also finished. Charlie was the 1985 High Point Open and won the Purina Award. Charlie was a good sire producing 11 titled dogs. Two of these dogs produced 15 titled dogs each. These outstanding producers were FC-AFC Black Gold’s Kates Rascal and FC-AFC Candlewoods M D Houston.
